Participants in this year's Eye on art-Research Lab have taken the topic of Techno-diversity, launched by the Rietveld's Studium Generale, as a guide for their work. Relating to a techno-diverse world may seem challenging. It also shows that this is a palpable, uncontrollable, versatile, and very vulnerable reality for most of this generation. ASMR, Avatars, Surveillance, Digital Colonialism, AI, Chat-GTP, are omnipresent and are a daily challenge to survive with all kinds of digital devices.
And then we wonder: what reality there is left to play hide and seek. Aren’t we all looking for a tangible life in front (or behind) all these multidimensional screens. When should we unplug to reach for another world? Or lean back into a romantic historicism of discarded footage. In short, the topic of this program inspired students to create work in many different directions according to their own fascination and language.
